Comodo is the worst

I purchased two ssl certificates from Comodo in the past few months. I had to, literally speaking, fight with them to get my certificates. They do not seem to know what documents they need. Their European offices are unhelpful and rude. As if they do you the ultimate favor when they respond to your questions. Please do yourself a favor and get your certificates from somewhere else.

5 Hours Wasted - Still No SSL!

I generally don't get annoyed enough with poor service to write reviews about companies, but I thought this was a notably bad experience and was worth venting a bit. I have basically 3 sources of contention with the potato heads at Comodo: 1) There's a complete disconnect between Authorize.net and Comodo -- Authorize.net offers a substantial reseller discount of Comodo certs, but neither company will service your call if there are problems with the registration process. They both refer you to the other company for help ... and they're all idiots. :( * Wasted 1.5 hrs at this step (this was the easy part) 2) Comodo happily charges your credit card right away, but is neither clear about the additional documentation they need, nor what those docs should establish. If I at least knew what they wanted to validate, I might have been able to collect and provide that in short order. Instead, I'm scanning articles of incorporation, bank statements, phone bills, lease agreements, and undoing my private domain registration for them. * Wasted 2 hrs of back and fourth with their India-based customer support trying to figure out what it is that they really want from me. And they still want more. Do they want my first born? The deed to my house? Maybe they want my 6th grade transcripts? 3) Phone support at least seemed to be state-side, but they don't know what's going on either. I thought I could cut a few hours of email churn by chatting with them on the phone, but the phone guy's request was incomplete as well. * Wasted another 30 mins here. So, I'm now in for 4 hrs and ~$150 and still no SSL cert. I'll give these clowns another day to ponder the universe and then I'm going to stop payment on my credit card for their charge and try someone else. Btw, for the sslshopper.com admin ... I'd have liked to give them a lower rating than 1-star but I couldn't. I was thinking there should be at least a no-star option but even better might be a negative-star series.? Plus, what is a negative star but a blackhole ... seems appropriate given the soul crushing, time sucking vortex that is Comodo. This analogy could be taken further, but I'll stop. Admin Edit: Thanks for the feedback Robert. I have enabled an overall rating of 0 on the site and adjusted your review accordingly. Sorry that you're having such a bad experience.

I ordered the free certificate which is the same as the essential just short expiration. I called and talk to the sales department about the renewing process to get a full certificate. They answered quickly, and were very helpful.

Warning European customers

If you select europe in the "Select your region"-dropdown the currency changes to euro, but it is the same amount, which effectively makes your product 42% (with todays rates) more expensive. This is in no way described in their site. I get this answer (after a long dialog): "We have had a static currency rate for many years regardless of the exchange rates at the time. You can however purchase in any currency that you wish if it would it more cost effective."

I have been trying to renew my certificate for two months. They took my money immediately then asked me to fax documentation to them. I did this. I chased them. They couldn't find the fax. Eventually they cancelled my certificate, making my site look illegal. I tried to telephone them and their phone just cut me off after several minutes waiting. I faxed the documents again to the number they gave me. The day afterwards I get this email: "Dear Christopher , Thank you for writing to us. We had still not received your documents. We request you to send the documents as attachment to this email in .jpg or .pdf format. If you need assistance, or wish to speak to a Customer Service Representative, please contact us toll-free at anytime at 1-888-266-6361 (U.S. and Canada) and +1 (206) 203-6361 (Worldwide). "To serve you better in the near future, Kindly provide your Valuable feedback to feedback@comodo.com " Never mind that the email is illiterate. They also closed the ticket as if the problem were solved! I would have saved more money by going with a more expensive provider who didn't waste my time and falsely declare my certificate invalid. cjc

The 'support' is handled by the rudest most obnoxious people I have ever delt with in my life. They have no idea what they are talking about and like to give you one liners like "give me the order number", "wait" which as a customer makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Upon emailing them I get a ONE LINE email back saying "email blahblah@comodo.com" and that was IT. No explanation as to why or what was going on. Completely useless. I am going to go with someone who knows how to traeat a customer and not waste my time with this bunch of cowboys.

Ordered the free SSL trial and it arrived very quickly and worked, ordered the essential SSL and it arived just as quickly and worked too. The web order system told me exactly what information it needed (which I was unsure of initially) and was clear and concise. Excellent system

I ordered and installed a certificate (incorrectly) and I had a problem where the browser said the issuer was not trusted. I contacted my hosting support and they told me the certificate was installed correctly. I found some of the negative reviews here an almost freaked out, but instead I just submitted a support ticket on Comodo's site. It is Friday afternoon and I've already gotten an answer from them (less than an hour). The answer was polite and it led me directly to the answer that resolved my issue. Here is their answer: Hi Chad, Thank you for your mail. I did an installation check from our end. It seems that the root and intermediate certificates are not installed properly. Please install the root and intermediate certificate. For installation instructions please go through the following link https://support.comodo.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=view&parentcategoryid=83&nav=0%2C1 Should have any queries do not hesitate to write to us. Regards Malcolm Technical Support Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: PPP-619541 Department: Certificates Priority: Urgent I'm quite pleased and the price was especially nice. Next time, I'll know how to install this thing from the get go and won't even have this issue.

I got an e-mail from COMODO telling me my cert. was about to expire. I called them twice, no answer, and left them voice messages, asking to call me back. Nothing happened. I e-mailed them several times, urging them to renew my certificate: No response!!! My certificate expired and just imagine the amount of phone calls I got from OWA users. Thanks for nothing, COMODO!

Customer service from this company is non existent. The product might be good and be of a good price but at what point does the amount of frustration outweigh the cost savings. Heres the commentary from a support call Me "Hi i've submitted a ticket and don't seem to be getting a response i'm hoping you could help me please ?" Support "What do you want ?" Me "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" Support "Log a ticket" Me "I've logged tickets but am getting no response" Support "log a ticket" Me "But I have logged a ticket" Support "Wait then" Me "Any idea how long until I get an answer ?" Support "No" Me "1 day ? 1 week ? 1 year ?" Support "No, you'll need to log a ticket" Come to think of it instead of answering "helpdesk" I swear the guy just answered "desk"

Need TO COMMUNICATE

There was little to no instruction or guidance through the entire validation process (which I still have not completed). They apparently needed various documents but completely failed to communicate which docment's they needed. I would send them one document and then I wouldn't hear back from them. Little did I know they were waiting for more documents. Each time I got no response I had to call THEM to figure out what they wanted. It was frustrating and inefficient, totally unnecessary, and I DON'T RECOMMEND you use them. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else!

I've had a lot of problems with Verisign as I'm sure a lot of people that are reading this have had. Comodo just works better and I like working with the support people at Comodo so much better that Verisign.

I have purchased quite a few certificates from Comodo, mostly in the form of their InstantSSL certificate. In my experience their tech support has always been responsive and helpful. The only downside is that their certificates, while included in every browser's Trusted Root store, are not single root certificates, which can lead to extra complexity when deploying to certain appliances and especially mobile devices. Having to install their root certificate on a bunch of smartphones can be very time consuming.

Pay the extra for Verisign - I know I will, next time

These guys are terrible. They won't let you make a purchase that doesn't run through their extremely unstable JavaScript/ActiveX solution. Their "automated" purchase system doesn't work with IE7; I had to download Mozilla. Their instructions are unclear, at best. When I finally was notified that my certificate was available, I get a vague email with a link. I click on the link and get this stupid message that says "Your personal certificate has been installed" with no indication of /where/ it has been installed. It's not a personal certificate. After a complete search of my computer there is no evidence that the certificate was installed anywhere. Best of all: there's no way to contact technical support without a user name and password... which they won't give. Basically: everything that could go wrong has. They've taken my money and delivered absolutely nothing but frustration and heartache in return. It will cost you less, get you a certificate sooner, and probably not put you in contact with nearly as much red tape to form your own certificate authority and get it recognized as a root CA. Do not use Comodo; I can't imagine worse service.
