Terrible Customer Service

Terrible customer service/support. No proactive thinking. Terrible followup. WHOIS privacy settings on so Thawte doesn't send confirmation email They also don't send email advising of the issue. Just leave as pending until the customer contacts them. Avoid at all costs!

Standard cert issuance slow? Try an EV!

Product: SSL Web Server Certificate with EV

I requested two EVs for different organisations. Both took a fortnight. This was not due to any problems with validation, simply that they would not progress anything except by repeatedly prompting them via the dreadful chat app (they appear to just switch this off sometimes when they're too busy). One cert only got issued two days before expiry of its predecessor. The worrying thing is that to finally expedite it they didn't actually get in touch with the designated authorised person as they claim is necessary, just spoke to a member of staff on reception. Not good. Dear Webmaster, you need an extra item ‘Several Weeks’ in the time to issue drop down for reviews of Thawte!

Huge Price! Awful Service! 4 Days and still waiting

All I wanted to do was renew our Wildcard SSL Certificate. Just renew it. It's now week two. Yes WEEK TWO, not day two. I was told I had to have an enterprise account, so I said OK. This took a day to sort out. A DAY! Then I was told I needed to make a false purchase of 30 "Credits" worth of SSL Wildcard credits? I have no idea why. This was to authorise me as an enterprise customer. Then I needed to use theses credits to "buy" the certificate. We wanted one to cover three servers. Yes they charge by the server, even though it's a wildcard SSL certificate. £2,700 later. I couldn't do it, as their web interface says I have to purchase licensing for a minimum of five servers. So I email them back and a they say do it for five and they will make the adjustments. This took about a week to get through. In the mean time they have no UK bank account so we had to pay in dollars. We don't have a company credit card so we had to send someone to the bank in person to make the transfer. All this has taken 10 emails and 12 days. We still have no certificate, and they have our money. The enterprise account page says that processing takes 2 days or less. It has been four since I was even able to make the order on their page. Also they couldn't give us an invoice with the actual order number on it, so I don't know if that's gonna bounce back from our Finance department.

I bought Thawte certificate over the www.hostica.eu website. The certificates are cheaper and the support is the best. I can only recommend it!!

I buy this Thawte SSL from domain.com. Price is cheap USD$50 for 2 yrs. However, the sales is doing on domain.com. After buy it, it redirect to Thawte web page, the process is somehow difficult. And Thawte won't provide enough instruction. I was trapped on incorrect intramediate cert. It spend me 2 hr to solve it. I have to google around to find solution...

Waste of time and money

If you are in need of a head-ache and 3 days of downtime, then by all means, feel free to use thawte. They are the most inept people I have ever had to deal with. No phone support is pathetic and when you do try to call them, you get a stupid message playing back. We've changed our email addresses so that they can email us but still their certificate that should take 15 minutes to create took us over a day both times we renewed it. (there was an error on our part the first time) but after getting through to their tech support on chat, it happened within about half an hour. Went to GoDaddy, finished everything I needed while on the phone to their support the whole time and all done within a day (which is what they promissed). Much cheaper and lasts 5 years.

Cert deemed inferior by security vendor

Our Thawte certificate is causing us to fail a necessary compliance scan so we will need to remove it and purchase from another vendor. Although our cert is SHA1 it chains back to an MD5 root which causes the failure. Thawte support is extremely frustrating and unresponsive and I have had a case open for 10 days with no resolve. I will never purchase another cert from Thawte. I won't purchase from Verisign either since they own Thawte.

Certificate Renewal Problem

After 50 emails with Thawte support folks and 3-person days of work on our part, our attempt to renew our certificate has left us with a web site that only partly works. Previously, we were able to easily renew our certificate every two years. The problem seems to be with the newly required intermediate certificates.

Unless this certificate is offered by the host and you pay only after it is installed, you can go for it. Else, never buy this certificate.

What a piece of junk company

We paid (WHAT A MISTAKE) about $400 for a 5-year SSL cert, instead of getting it like we always do from Go Daddy. They changed some crap on their system that requires you to install some intermediate thing. This really isn't complicated: An SSL certificate for outlook web access. I've been trying to get someone on the phone for days. Issuing takes two business days. They promise to call, their chat is unavailable... long story short, a piece of junk company.

Painful

Painful is the only word to describe my 10 years of having to buy certs from Thawte. - Slow and unhelpful support. - a confusing website which hides information, and frequently simply wouldn't work. for example: the old reseller site had drop down selectors for month and year, you'd have to use to see your certs. The year rolled over and you couldn't select the current year until about april-march, when they got around to fixing it. We continued to use them because there were all these promises of how the new reseller site would be so much better. It wasn't. It was the same thing tidied up a bit with many of the things we relied on removed. It was almost like they didn't want to do business with us and just wished we'd go away. So we did. - continues to spam marketing emails to me althou I have unsubscribed and personally written to my "account manager" several times asking to be removed from lists.

Doesn't validate through the Safari browser

I tried multiple times it vain to get Thawte to identify and diagnose problems with the Thawte 123 certificate on our site, even creating example videos and test pages to demonstrate the problem, but they were unwilling and unable to help me rectify the demonstrated validity failure. Finally, I discovered on my own that their certificate was invalid with Safari browser root certificates. I went with Digicert and I'm having no issues now, validating SSL in every browser.

Thawte is the worst i have ever seen. Their service is next to none and their site is so bad i won't even start on it. Customer service i think is the biggest issue. They say they have 24 hours support but its not there. usually it takes days to get support and its slow and difficult to actually get anything done. They change things and don't inform people and their payment methods leaves a lot to be desired. Thawte really needs to pick up their act. They won't survive on being the biggest if they keep this up. Just look at all the reviews on the net if you google Thawte. Overhaul and redo everything from the bottom up and get some customer service and MAYBE it will work. I'm moving all my certs off Thawte...

Terrible Customer Service

I've been waiting for over 2 weeks for a certificate renewal. Customer service is unresponsive, emails go into the ether, faxes get lost. Today I was sent an email to say my order would be cancelled in 48 hours because they didn't have all the documentation (which I've sent them multiple times). I don't think I'll be using them again.

6 days to get an IIS SLL which should take 10 mins. No response to queries for days, nobody online for support chat, no contact form Thawte after you submit a query on the site... We will certainly look at moving our business to Comodo.

All notification mails from thawte are sent with From: yourname@yourdomain.com To: yourname@yourdomain.com This is one of the most common patterns spam-blockers react on. After several times of telling thawte i've given up, they do not accept the improvement to change the sender to something like noreply@thawte.com or so...

Support tries to rush you through the process without providing much guidance. I am currently on hold with Thawte support and have lots of time to write this review. I have been placed on hold 3 times already and the call is over 32 minutes already. All I am trying to do is move the certificate from one domain to another. This task must be way over the support persons head, because now I have been disconnected.

OK as long as you don't need to call support

Thawte SSL certificates work fine. There are no problems getting them issued or with popular browsers accepting them. However, the Thawte support staff are terrible. Thawte is in the process of implementing a change to the seal/badge that they allow their Certificate Customers to show on their sites. I have received a number of duplicate emails from Thawte about this change even though I made the required changes on my site after receiving the first email. I have tried emailing and calling to have them stop sending the duplicate emails, but they say they can't do anything about it since the emails are automated. They won't even transfer me to the voice mail of someone in the department responsible for sending the emails. After arguing with the support rep about being transferred, I informed him that he had 3 choices: 1) Transfer me to the appropriate voice mail, 2) Transfer me to his supervisor or 3) I would be taking my business elsewhere. After this I was put on "indefinite" hold while the support rep tried to find someones voice mail to transfer me to. I guess I'll be taking by SSL Certificae business to company that isn't owned by Verisign.

Thawte is a well know Certificate Authority, and their certs are very good. We support a large number of embedded devices, and they all seem to work. That said..... Their support is near unusable. They dont publish phone numbers for support in the US (that I can find), and I cant dial internationally from where I am at. Replies to emails are sometimes days in the coming. Communication is OK as to where the certificate is in the process, but it is very difficult to get a hold of someone when there are questions. I waited in a chat queue for almost an hour, and then gave up. I have had luck with them in the past, but now.......

I have had extremely slow response time with Thawte. Their South African processing center is not 24 hours, and on their native time (I'm in the united states) they are closed during many times that I need an answer. After all of the paperwork is processed and the certificate is paid for, they can take a day to process, when there's really no more approval to be done. They're inexpensive, which is a definite big bonus, but start your renewal process a week in advance to fix all the hangups in the process that you have to bug their technical support about. Be prepared to use their technical support chat over and over for every single certificate.
