GlobalSign Introduces EV SSL to Managed SSL Service

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 4, 2009) - GlobalSign Ltd. (www.globalsign.co.uk), one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialists in SSL Certificate security, today announced an anticipated update to its Managed SSL Service to enable the immediate issuance of Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates. The updated service reduces the need for organisations to purchase EV SSL through retail channels, which often have long vetting processes for each individual application - typically leading to higher costs and inconvenience for enterprises with multiple Certificate requirements.

GlobalSign's Managed SSL Service offers significant cost and time savings for organisations managing any number of SSL Certificates and was launched as a solution for easy management of multiple SSL Certificates (even for complex, distributed organisations). The web based (or API based) service works on the principle of GlobalSign pre-vetting the organisation and its domains to an EV standard. The pre-vetted EV information may then be used to issue any SSL Certificate instantly. The service can issue two types of SSL Certificate, both are issued from GlobalSign's cryptographically strong 2048 bit SHA-1 root Certificate:

- ExtendedSSL EV SSL Certificates - activates the green address bar in IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari, giving highly visible indicators of vetted web site identity to provide the highest levels of trust in a web site.

- OrganizationSSL Certificates - traditional SSL type that secures single domain names, or uses the wildcard and multi-domain options to secure multiple domains, sub-domains and IP addresses with a single SSL Certificate.

"With the increase of fraud, phishing and attacks on weaker 1024 bit MD5 SSL implementations, more organisations are choosing to secure their public facing sites using 2048 bit SHA-1 EV SSL, however waiting for individual EV SSL Certificates to be vetted can be time-consuming", said Paul Tourret, Managing Director, GlobalSign Ltd. "The new SSL Managed Service eliminates the need for repeat vetting and allows immediate Certificate issuance for an organisation with multiple SSL requirements; all offered through a single portal that reduces TCO for SSL at the same time."

Other key features of GlobalSign's Managed SSL Service include the easy reissue, revocation and renewal of existing Certificates, as well as allowing Certificate start and end dates to be customised. Additional Users with a granular level of permissions representative of the User's role can be added to the account and a Public Ordering Page can be activated, allowing administrators to facilitate company-wide applications via a link or intranet. All aspects of reporting, auditing and billing across multiple departments can also be managed effectively through the same account.
